Statement on Trump Banning CNN, MS NOW and Politico

On Friday, President Trump dramatically escalated his campaign against the press, banning CNN, MS NOW and Politico outright from White House grounds. On Monday, all three outlets sued the administration over the ban — and in a powerful show of solidarity, ABC, CBS, Fox News and NBC refused to step in for CNN, suspending shared television coverage of presidential events.

“The First Amendment does not guarantee freedom only for journalists whose reporting the president likes,” said Jane Fonda, founder of the Committee for the First Amendment. “Americans are living with the consequences of his actions. Silencing the journalists reporting on these harms is both a grave violation of our Constitution and does not change the underlying reality. I applaud the collective response today from networks. An attack on one is an attack on all.”

The Committee for the First Amendment stands with every news organization targeted by this government who refuses to cave to its intimidation.
